The Ch1Con team is excited to announce the 2017 Ch1Con Yule Ball!
The Yule Ball will be an hour-and-a-half long live video panel taking place Saturday, February 11th from 8:00 to 9:30 PM EST. It’ll feature young authors, answering YOUR questions about writing and the publishing process. (Oh, and did we mention that there will be all kinds of awesome giveaways too?)
Our amazing panelists are:
Christine Lynn Herman
Christine Lynn Herman was born in Manhattan, but grew up in Japan and Hong Kong. She came back to the United States to study at the University of Rochester, where she traded out a subtropical climate for harsh, snowy winters and an Honors English degree of questionable real-world value.
She returned to NYC post-grad to attend the Columbia Publishing Course. Currently, she works as a literary assistant at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates by day and writes YA novels by night, and is represented by Kelly Sonnack of the Andrea Brown Literary Agency.
Hannah Moskowitz wrote her first story, about a kitten named Lilly on the run from cat hunters, for a contest when she was seven years old. It was disqualified for violence. Her first book, BREAK, was on the ALA’s 2010 list of Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults, while her novel GONE, GONE, GONE (2012) was a Stonewall Honor Recipient and TEETH (2013) earned starred reviews from Booklist, Kirkus, and The Bulletin. NOT OTHERWISE SPECIFIED was named the Bisexual YA Book of the Year in 2016 by the Bisexual Book Awards. She lives in Maryland.
Joan He started out in art – the pencil-sketching, oil-painting kind of art – only to quickly discover the art of the written word. So, here she is now, love undivided. When she’s not trying to balance writing and sophomoring at the University of Pennsylvania (where she’s a Psychology Major), she over-indulges in her love for wombats, Mao Feng tea, and scary anime.
Briana Morgan is a YA and NA writer, editor, and blogger who loves dark, suspenseful reads, angst-ridden relationships, and complicated characters. Her interest in Jay Gatsby scares her friends and family. You can find her in way too many places online, eating too much popcorn, reading in the corner, or crying about long-dead literary heroes.
Interested in asking a question? Tweet using #Ch1ConYuleBall and we’ll have the panelists answer as many questions as we have time for!
Interested in entering a giveaway? We’ll announce the giveaway prizes and post Rafflecopter raffles for you to enter throughout the Yule Ball! (And we think you’re going to be pretty excited about these prizes. So many books!)
Hey there! The Ch1Con team spent this fall teaching two fantastic young writers about the publishing process in our inaugural mentorship program. The final step of this program was the release of an anthology featuring these up-and-coming young authors’ short stories (as well as some of our own). The anthology is called Twisted, because these stories all have some pretty killer plot twists (pun possibly intended).
We’re absolutely in love with this book. And we want to share it with you. So, in honor of its release, we’re giving away one paperback copy of Twisted!
Isn’t it pretty?
If you’d like to win this copy of Twisted, you can enter the giveaway at the link below:
If you don’t win the giveaway and still want a copy of Twisted (which, you know, we think you should want, in our entirely unbiased opinions), the paperback editionis available now for order on Blurb.com, and the e-book is available on Blurb.com, Amazon, and iBooks. (It’ll also be available from Barnes & Noble soon.)

The Chapter One Young Writers Conference team is thrilled to announce that we’ll be revealing our 2016 speakers here on the conference blog (www.chapteroneconference.com) beginning tomorrow (Thursday, January 14th)!
The Chapter One Young Writers Conference is a writer’s conference both for and by young writers. Ch1Con 2016 will take place Saturday, August 6th at the Hilton Garden Inn in St. Charles, IL, a western suburb of Chicago. It will include workshops, trivia (with prizes!), lots of nerding out about writing and books, and more.
We’re SO EXCITED to share our 2016 speakers with you. However, we don’t want anyone to spontaneously combust from an overload of awesomeness (these authors are so talented, it could happen)–so, we’ll be spreading out the speaker reveals throughout the rest of this week. Starting Thursday, we’ll reveal one speaker a day, leading up to our amaaazing keynote speaker on Saturday! The speaker reveals will also include some pretty awesome giveaways (if we do say so ourselves)–including signed books, a critique, and more!
We’re SO EXCITED to finally get to share the 2015 Chapter One Young Writers Conference with you next month! If you haven’t registered yet and still want to attend the conference, you have until the end of July to snag a spot for $49.99.
Unfortunately, August 1st we have to increase the registration fee to a late rate of $74.99. And because seriously no one wants to pay that much, we’re hoping to fill the last two available spots to attend the conference before the end of July.
Know someone who might want to come? Want to register for the conference yourself? We figured we’d give you a little added incentive.
From now until the end of July, share info about the conference, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, register to join us for the best writing-filled day ever, etc., etc.–and enter to win a free Ch1Con 2015 t-shirt!
The t-shirts are white with our signature tomato logo, the name of the conference, and “Chicago, 2015” on them. They come in unisex and Bella (fitted) styles, sizes small through extra-large. And we’d love to give one to you.
