Join the Team!

Chapter One Events is looking for some bright new voices to join the Ch1Con and Ch21Con teams!

The application is open now through Friday, September 1 at 11:59 PM EDT.

Applicants for the Chapter One Young Writers Conference planning team should be between the ages of 11 and 20 (as of August 4, 2018). Applicants for the Chapter Twenty-One Conference planning team should be between the ages of 21 and 29 (as of August 4, 2018). New team members will help plan the relevant 2018 conference and participate in online activities year-round, as well as have the opportunity to propose new ideas to their team and spearhead projects.

Please note: these are volunteer, unpaid positions. All members of the Chapter One Events organization are required to pay a yearly membership fee of $100. (However, this fee does cover members’ entrance to all official conference activities. Also, if you don’t have the funding available to afford the membership fee, we’ll work it out so that you only have to pay what you can.)

Requirements to Apply

You must be in the appropriate age range for the conference to which you are applying. As of August 4, 2018–the proposed date for both of the 2018 conferences–Ch1Con applicants must be between the ages of 11 and 20, and Ch21Con applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 29.
You must be able to dedicate at least three hours a week to team-related activities, whether that be meetings, independent assignments, live chats, or something else. Most weeks, you likely won’t have to dedicate this sort of time, but we want to know you’ll be available when need be.
You must be ready to make Ch1Con or Ch21Con a priority in your life. We aren’t asking you to drop everything to work on one of our conferences, obviously. But we do need to know that you’ll respect the commitment you’re make by agreeing to join the team and that you’ll take responsibility for your actions as a team member.
You must love writing. This is the most important one. Being part of this team is (in our not-at-all-biased opinions) really fun. But also we literally talk about writing all the time (because writer’s conferences), so you’ll need to be prepared to do the same.
You must at least grudgingly tolerate our admittedly weird sense of humor. We have a years-long running joke about a man-eating hamster (his name is Larry), as well as an only semi-ironic ongoing quest to get sponsored someday by Panera Bread. (We just really like their mac and cheese, okay? Also their baguette. And soups. And drinks. Okay, we just really like Panera overall.) Also, team meetings regularly get disrupted by pun battles, so there’s that. Basically: we’re a bunch of geeky weirdos. Don’t judge us and we won’t judge you. Cool?
